Healing Wonders of Alpinia zerumbet ‘Variegata’
Alpinia zerumbet ‘Variegata’ is one variation of Alpinia Zerumbet that originated in India. It grows to about ten feet in height and 4 feet in width. Commonly known as the variegated ginger or simply variegata, this plant has green-colored, lance-shaped leaves accentuated with pale yellow margins. During summer produces light pink flowers that are like sea shells in appearance.
The leaves and roots of Alpinia zerumbet ‘Variegata’ are commonly used because it is believed to contain kavain and dehydrokavain which are known for their relaxing effect. Alpinia zerumbet’s leaves are also used for anti-hypertension and anti-stress medication. In addition, Variegated ginger’s colorful foliage gives a beautiful effect on many tropical landscape gardens and it can even brighten up a shaded garden.
