- When holiday decorations come out and the Christmas cactus and poinsettias start taking center stage, house plants often get pushing into darker corners. Consider using artificial lights to provide more light and make sure the leaves are not pushed up against cold window panes.
- Watch the watering! Growth slows down and may even stop altogether. This means most indoor plants will not need as much water.
- You can extend the time you can enjoy your holiday plants by putting them in a cool but brightly lit area. Also make sure they stay free of warm spots and cold drafts.
- Finally, if buying a real Christmas tree look for a tree with flexible, green needles which are staying firmly on the tree. Also make sure the trunk is “sticky” - this is an indicator of a freshly cut tree. Keep the bottom or cut end in water all the time.
