The Lady Palm (Rhapis excelsa)
Rhapis excelsa is the scientific name for the aristocratic, elegant, and uniquely beautiful Broadleaf Lady Palm. The Lady Palm grows in multi-stemmed clumps of up to 4 m in height and 30 mm in diameter. Its glossy leaves have ends that are saw-toothed and are divided into broad, ribbed segments that differ according to the maturity of the plant. Rhapis excelsa species produces a small inflorescence at the top crowned with spirally-arranged and fleshy tri-petalled flowers. Just like other palms species, R. excelsa produces white fleshy fruits.
The undemanding and versatile R. excelsa easily adapts to low light and humidity interiors and subtropical landscapes; thereby making them important additions and graceful accents to interiors, landscapes, homes, offices and gardens. Even in crowded areas like malls, the Lady Palm continues to reflect the quiet dignity of its Far Eastern Heritage.
