Phlox Drummondii

I can think of hardly any other flower that has as long a period of profuse bloom as that of the vari-colored Phlox drummondii.

By sowing seed early, in a coldframe or any protected place that’s above freezing, you can have seedlings ready for transplanting as early as June 1. Or, you can sow seed in the open ground and have young plants about two weeks later.

Once Phlox drummondii begins flowering, it blooms continually in many shades of red and purple as well as bright pink and white. A solid bed of plants which grow from 12 to 18 inches high is attractive. Phlox is also attractive in a rock garden but it must have a half day of sunshine. For the perennial border, when a splash of color is needed, what is better than phlox in different shades?

I find this flower easy to grow. It is free from pests and able to stand dry weather exceptionally well. It is such an easy, endearing plant that even if I must water it when the weather is very dry, I feel well repaid. For beautiful blooms and beautiful colors, Phlox drummondi is tops.
