Garden Croton

Codiaeum variegatum commonly known as “garden croton” or “variegated croton” is native to Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, southern India, and the western Pacific Ocean islands. They can grow for about 10 ft tall and has a very colorful and shiny leaves. Garden croton love warmth and humidity that is why they are difficult to please indoors. However, Garden crotons have wonderful color so they are worth the effort.
Warning: When cutting the stems and leaves, Garden croton release a milky sap that can cause allergic reaction.
Croton ‘Harvest Moon
Croton ‘Harvest Moon’ or Codiaeum variegatum var. pictum ‘Harvest Moon’ is another beautiful variety in the world of colorful croton plants. This particular variety is characterized by its bright gold midrib and veins. The bright yellow or golden veins become reddish as the plant matures. Harvest Moon has glossy leaves that are somewhat star-like in shape instead of the oval shape carried by other Croton plants. The leaves are longer but not as narrow compared to the other Croton varieties.

As a full tropical plant, Croton ‘Harvest Moon’ needs average amount of water. So if you want a continuous supply of bright colors from your Croton ‘Harvest Moon’ be sure not to overwater it. Average amount of water would mean optimum evaporation of water which is the secret to keeping your Croton ‘Harvest Moon’ foliage bright and colorful.
Croton ‘Harvest Moon’ plants are suitable for growing indoors as houseplants and as container plants. They can add a colorful touch to fall gardens and low-life interiors. When grown outdoors, Croton ‘Harvest Moon’ plants can be used as hedges.
