Galium
GALIUM (gay’-li-um) - A genus of slender temperate-climate herbs, some with square stems, all with stalkless leaves in whorls, and abundant clusters of very small white or yellow flowers. They are grown mainly in rock gardens for the light airy effect similar to that of babys breath. The species best known in America are Galium tnolIngo (known as Wild Madder, Great or White Bedstraw, or False-babys-breath), a 3 ft. perennial weed introduced from Europe to E. U. S.; Galium boreale (Northern Bedstraw), native over much of North America and popular for use in rockeries; and Galium verum (Yellow Bedstraw), a good rock and bank plant, but sometimes becoming a weed in Eastern U.S
