Gagea

GAGEA (gay’-jee-ah). A genus of small bulbous plants, native in Europe, Asia, and North Africa, belonging to the Lily Family. Formerly included under the genus Ornithogalum, they require the same treatment as plants of that group. The flowers are mostly yellow and open in spring.

Gagea !idea (Yellow Star-of-Bethlehem) has 3 to 4 flowers in a flat cluster, yellow with a green back, and opening only in the forenoon. G. bracteolaris has umbels of pale yellow flowers ; the stem leaves are fringed with long hairs.
