Ficus Benjamina Spirials - The Weeping Fig or Benjamin’s Fig
Introducing, the official tree of Bangkok, Thailand - Ficus benjamina, commonly known as the Weeping Fig or Benjamin’s Fig. Native to south and southeast Asia and Australia, this species of fig tree is notorious for being difficult to grow.
Under favorable conditions, the Ficus benjamina can grow into an evergreen shrub or tree reaching 30 meters tall; thereby making it a common stately tree for parks and wide roads.
The Weeping Fig is called as such because of its gracefully drooping branchlets accentuated by its simple, long-tipped and glossy leaves. Its small fruits serve as food to some birds. Both the fruits and flowers are enclosed in a fleshy sac that turns green to red finally to purplish black.
Ficus Benjamina is the kind of indoor plant anyone would love to hate. It makes a great indoor house plant because of its elegant growth and special tolerance to poor growing conditions. Just be careful of its poisonous sap.
