A New Look for Ficus Benjamina

Varieties of Ficus plants are widely used as hedge plants. Ficus benjamina, for instance, is typically sold with braided trunks. Braided Ficus or braided Weeping Fig is the popular form available to landscapers, gardeners, nursery keepers, and landscape architects. This braided form is a whole new look for Ficus.

When braiding young Ficus benjamina plants, 3 to 4 trunks are tied together and fuse as they mature to the point that they will turn into a single trunk. The young and flexible Ficus branch to be used for braiding is pruned first to get rid of side branches. It is not a good idea to force Ficus links when braiding. Use nursery ties to keep the new Ficus benjamina braids in place.
