Fame Flower

FAME-FLOWER - Common name for the genus Talinum of the Purslane Family, comprising a number of small fleshy perennial herbs with erect clusters of pink, red, or yellow flowers that last but a short time. Some of the species are hardy and grown in the rock garden or the border; others are grown in pots or tubs as house plants. They are increased by seed or division. Talinum paniculatum, to 2 ft., with red to yellowish flowers in clusters to 10 in. long, has a form with white-edged leaves that is often grown indoors. Talinum triangulare, to 1-1/2 or 2 ft., with flowers red or yellowish in long racemes, a native of tropical America, is an excellent border-plant and also used as a pot-herb.
