Echinostachys

ECHINOSTACHYS (ee-ky-noh-stay’- kis) - A small group (5 or 6 species) of handsome herbaceous perennials belonging to the Bromelia Family and allied to Aechmea, with which they are sometimes classified. They are spiny-leaved plants native to South America. The flowers are brilliant in color, and the leaves darken in tint after flowering. The plants require greenhouse conditions and a fibrous loam with fresh humus added.
