Digging Into the Dracaena deremensis ‘Warneckii’ Root System

Dracaena deremensis ‘Warneckii’ is an easy-to-care Dracaena.  Despite of its captivating beauty, Dracaena deremensis ‘Warneckii’ or simply Warneckii is known to many as a very durable plant. The beauty and the durability of this plant lie on its sword-shaped leaves and on its amazing roots.

Other dracaena plants have numerous and dense root systems.  Other varieties have thick and fleshy roots.  Shown here is the root system of Dracaena deremensis ‘Warneckii’.  Warneckii roots are moderately branching and are grey orange in color.  The roots are the biggest factor that can affect the health and beauty of the leaves.  In addition, they contribute a lot in propagating plants.  For instance, acclimated Dracaena Warneckii plants develop a more extensive root system that makes the plant’s foliage more resistant to drying.  Overwatered roots usually carry excess water with them for a long standing time and this usually causes poor plant performance.
