Mealy Bugs on Your Dracaena Janet Craig

Dracaena Janet Craig or Green Corn Plant is a variety of Dracaena deremensis that has dark green sword-shaped leaves. Simply called as the Janet Craig, this plant is widely used as an interior plant because of its tolerance to low light conditions. Interiorscapers love its upright growth and versatility which allows them to have Janet Craig in a bushy form, cane form or as a braided tree. A closer look at it will show you dense leaves growing on the stem while the lower parts of the plant consists of green stems are almost becoming bare.

Just like the other dracaena plants, Janet Craig can occasionally get pests like mealy bugs and other house plant pests. So when buying Janet Craig plants make sure that the plants are not carrying any of these pests, especially mealy bugs. If you see white cotton patches on the leaves, DO NOT buy the plant. To double-check everything, inspect the undersides of the leaves and the tiny spaces between the leaf stems and the main stems. This will ensure that no young mealy bugs are present on the plant. Young mealy bugs do not show cotton-like protective coating so this trick is highly recommended.
