Dracaena Jade Jewel and Dracaena Lemon Surprise

Dracaena deremensis brought us the dragontrees.  These dragontree selections mesmerized us with their striking colors and various assortments.  Among the medium compact varieties of dragontree is the Dracaena Jade Jewel.  Along with Green Jewel and White Jewel, the Jade Jewel carries the beautiful dragontree variety that has white-green multi-colored striped foliage.  Each of the Jade Jewel leaf has dark green edge.  This dark green edge differentiates Jade Jewel from White jewel; whereas its stripes differentiate it from the Green Jewel.

In most nurseries, Jade Jewel head plant is usually paired up with another surprisingly beautiful dracaena  – the Dracaena Lemon Surprise.  At first look, Dracaena Surprise looks like a mix between Dracaena compacta and Dracaena Lemon and Lime.  This is because Dracaena Surprise brightly colored leaves grow in compact form.  Dracaena Surprise was obtained as a mutation of Dracaena fragrans (group Compacta) Surprise.  Each leaf is elliptic and elongated with lightly-curled edge.  The lovely compact whorls of Dracaena Surprise can give any space, even a simple kitchen, a contemporary look.  A closer look at each leaf will show a distinct band of colors – grey-green center followed by a white margin that separates the center from the yellow green outer margins.
