
DIANELLA (dy-ah-nel’-ah) – A genus of fibrous-rooted perennials of the Lily Family, with grass-like leaves and whitish or blue flowers in loose clusters followed by blue fruits. In mild climates the plants may be grown outdoors but elsewhere a greenhouse or other frostproof location is necessary.
Dianella tasmanica commonly known as flax lilies is a flowering plants with monocot genus. They are native of South East Australia that grows up to 18 inches tall. Dianella tasmanica is a grass-like perennial with bold white stripes. During Mid Spring this lily blooms clusters of small lavender blue flowers and blue berries.
Flax Lily (A common name for the genus Phormium and sometimes applied to Dianella) is a drought tolerant and have a capability to survive cold temperatures because of its “Hardiness”. It is also best as a container plant and only needs average amount of water.
