The Wonders of Calamondin Plant
Calamondin plant is a shrub or a small tree with slender form. It exhibits an erect growth and is densely branched from the ground. Its stems are thorny and it develops taproots that can grow deeply. The aromatic leaves or Calamondin is one of the many unique features of the plant. Each leaf is dark-green, glossy on the upper surface, and yellowish-green on the undersides. Just like the leaves, Calamondin also bears aromatic pure-white flowers.
In addition to the leaves and flowers, Calamondin bears fruits which are known for their various uses. The Calamondin fruit looks like a miniature orange because of their round to oblate shape and orange-red peel. Just like a regular orange fruit, Calamondin fruit rind is also dotted with numerous oil glands. However, this rind is looser compared to that of oranges.
The Calamondin fruits are known for their many uses in the food industry. Along with the leaves, the plant is also believed to have healing or medicinal potentials. In gardening, Calamondin plants can make great ornamental dooryard tree or as a container plant. It is also grown sometimes as an indoor or house plant.
