African Violets – Temperature and Ventilation
The best thing about African violets – these beautiful East African natives – is their tolerance of the usual household heat. Too often delightful house plants, for bloom and survival, must be grown at less than sixty degrees, an uncomfortable state for humans. The African violet is a plant which thrives in an atmosphere even up to 75 degrees with the ideal temperature 70 – 72 degrees. A temperature of less than sixty degrees slows both growth and flowering.
A fresh atmosphere is essential. Even in cold weather closeness is detrimental but cool air must never blow directly on the plants. Indirect ventilation from an adjoining room is the safest plan. In most homes where doors to the outside are frequently in use the matter of fresh air takes care of itself. Only in the greenhouse does ventilation become part of a program.
