Celebrate Spring in Festive Flower Colors of The Lantanas
Most flowering plants hate exposures to direct sunlight. But there is one flowering shrub that produces flowers in festive colors that loves the heat – the shrub verbanas or the lantanas. Cultivated for their flowers, Lantana species produce aromatic flower clusters that are popular for their vibrant colors that are a mix of red, orange, yellow, blue, or white. What is more interesting with this group of plants is their characteristic to change color as they mature resulting blooms that are multicolored. The photo at the left shows one species of Lantana with yellow flowers that turn red with age.
Lantana flowers are tubular in shape and usually come in dense clusters. Each flower is consists of 4 flared lobes. Lantana leaves are long, oval-shaped, and are pointed at the tip. The plant has thin yet very tough stems. Short hairs serve as covering for young twigs. The bark of this plant appear like it is flaking off and its branches have prickles.
