Yellow Shrimp Plant (Pachystachys lutea)
The Golden Shrimp Plant or the Yellow Shrimp Plant is a flowering shrub known for its attractive golden yellow flowers that appear like shrimps. This evergreen tropical plant exhibits upright growth through its soft and typically multi-trunked or clumping stems.
Yellow Shrimp Plant flower were thought to be those golden yellow in color. As seen in the photo at the left, the inflorescence is consists of the white parts as the true flowers and the golden yellow portion as the bracts. The flowers of the plant usually appear above the foliage and look stunning in combination with the plant’s dark green leaves.
The attractive colors of the leaves and the inflorescences of the Yellow Shrimp Plant make it a strong accent plant. Some growers would prune the plant after its blooming period which allows them to make potted plants out of their pruned creations. Potted Yellow Shrimp Plant is great indoors and outdoors.
